How I learned English from listening to rap music

The story behind how I started learning English at 17 years old

I was born and raised in Montreal and I am a native French speaker. When I was 16, I didn’t think I would ever speak English. I am now 24 years old, I live in Toronto, and I am fearing to lose my french (as funny as it may sound). Last year, my friend asked me: “Hey Mack, how did you learn French? It somehow sounds perfect”. I then replied:

I am a french native speaker. I had to learn English by myself after graduating from high school. I credit Tupac and Eminem for teaching me english!

Here’s the beginning of Story

Before the age of 17, I thought I would spend all my life in Montreal. I was not aware of the opportunities outside of my realm and even less about how to take advantage of them. Therefore, I never took English classes seriously and I’d fail them, and my teachers would give me a passing grade because I was nice and quiet in class.

In the middle of my junior year, my dad asked me: “What job do you want to do in the future?”. I replied: “I am not sure what job, but I want to be rich and successful!” (typical 17 years old kid…
